Anzac Sunday 2026 was a particularly special occasion for our sub-Branch. Blessed with spectacular weather and an outstanding community turnout, the day brought together veterans, cadets, Navy personnel, pipers, school groups and members of the public in a moving display of remembrance and community spirit. More than a couple of hundred marchers took part, led by 101-year-old World War II veteran John Ryrie alongside our President Charles and our Patron, Commander Kathryn Jones. It was especially pleasing to see  together strong representation from local schools including Waverley cadets and Cranbrook Senior and Junior Schools, Ascham, Rose Bay Public School and Scots College. The wider community lined New South Head Road throughout the march, with families, residents and visitors gathering along the route and watching from apartment balconies to pay their respects.

The commemorative service itself reflected both tradition and community connection. The introduction of the hymn “Abide With Me” was warmly embraced, with many joining in the singing led beautifully by Catherine Cosgrove. We were honoured by the strong representation from HMAS Watson and grateful for the Padre’s thoughtful contribution to the service. Special thanks are also extended to Rose Bay Police and the Pipes Drum Major together with the Knox Old Boys/Northern Suburbs Pipe Band for coordinating the march with such professionalism and care. Following the service, Merivale once again generously hosted attendees with gourmet lamb sausages, Anzac biscuits and refreshments, continuing their valued support of our community event.
